WELCOME!!
Why I teach?: My students!
About Me
I am in my 6th year of teaching. Currently, I am in my 1st year at Shelby Middle School as a life science teacher. At Shelby Middle School, I have become highly involved in school functions and administrative opportunities. I serve as building principal in the absence of our principal. I serve as middle school athletic game manager, PSAT building coordinator, and FAME committee member.
Previously, I spent 4 years in Big Rapids High School. While there, I enjoyed teaching various high school biology courses as well as physical education electives. Teaching strength & conditioning and aerobics were, probably, the most fun and rewarding classes I have had the opportunity to be a part of. I was highly involved in Big Rapids High School. I was on numerous committees such as co-chair of the school improvement committee, F.A.M.E. (Formative Assessment for Michigan Educators) committee chair, SAT (Student Assistance Team) Committee, Big Rapids High School curriculum counsel representative to our district curriculum council, and Collins Writing Committee. I was also a lunch supervisor, served as a game manager for Big Rapids Athletics, and senior class adviser.
Previously, I was a paraprofessional for Hart Public Schools, long-term middle school substitute teacher for Shelby Public Schools, and Biology/FFA Teacher at Montague High School. I have a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Physical Education (Major) and Biology (Minor) from Grand Valley State University. I also completed my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Cornerstone University in December of 2017.

Outside of school I was an assistant boys basketball coach for 6 years, and Science Olympiad coach for four years at Shelby High School. I have been a head freshman girls basketball coach, Quiz Bowl assistant, game manager, and guest actor in Shrek- The Musical while at Big Rapids High School.
When I am completely away from school, I LOVE being outdoors. I am an avid snowmobiler, quad rider, ice hockey player, and hunter. For a couple years I even groomed the snowmobile trails out of Baldwin for the Trail Riders Snowmobile Club. I also like to show off where I have gone snowmobiling with my Polaris Ride Command App that allows me to track my ride, and see the trail system similar to that of a GPS for your vehicle. I am married (nearly 5 years now), and live with my wife near Walkerville, MI. We have 2 dogs and 1 horse. We live in the country and do not have any neighbors, so we enjoy the quiet life and all that nature has to offer! Both of us love to go kayaking, quad riding, snowmobiling, nature walks, hunting, and camping. During the summer we volunteer our time at the local animal shelter walking dogs. If you haven't ever taken time to do that, DO IT! |
I recently had laser lasik eye surgery to correct my vision problems so please feel free to watch the procedure below. (Yes, this is a video of the surgery of my eyes!)
